Read on to find out how you can host your wedding in this historic resort.
Wequassett Resort’s History
Wequassett resort’s history spans over 400 years. The area was enjoyed by Wampanoag Indians who loved summering in the area, swimming and fishing in the clear water, and at the same time collecting periwinkle and quahog shells for the sake of wampum. They eventually gave the area the name Wequassett (the crescent on the water).
The resort started to take shape in 1665 when Sachem John QuasonTowsowett sold the land to William Nickerson, who is now known to be the one to settle the town of Chatham. In 1907, two of the major buildings (the Square Top house and the 1740 Warren Jensen Nickerson House) on the now 22 building resort were moved to the Wequassett resort, which marked its emergence as a luxurious property.
In 1925, the resort began official operations as a full-time resort allowing guests from all over the world for “summer borders.” The major step towards establishing Wequassett Resort as one of the world-renowned hotels was taken in 1977. The property owners retained the property and gradually upgraded it to the now famous Five Star Luxury resort we all know.
Wequassett Resort has served as hosts to lots of visitors from different parts of the world and at the same time won some prestigious awards. Some of the notable awards are:
- #1 best resort in Cape Cod in 2019 by Cape Cod Times.
- #1 wedding venue in Cape Cod in 2019 by Boston Magazine.
