Turner Hill History

The history of the Mansion in Turner Hill goes way back to1898 when the notable architect William Rantoul was employed by the Rice family (Charles Goodnough Rice and Ann Proctor Rice) in Boston to construct the ground-breaking home. Their inspiration was driven by the numerous tours they had to some of the historic castles and mansions in Europe.

The unique building was completed in 1903. Some of these features include hand-molded plaster ceilings, hand-carved doors, stairways and paneling, gleaming oak hardwood floors, and windows modeled after Haddington Hall in Scotland. This combination of exceptional designs and craft made it the undisputed luxury in the area.

In the early 1900s, the Rice lived in the Mansion, raised their children, and hosted grandstand entertainment for family and friends more often than not. The famous George Patton was a regular feature in the Mansion and once entertained party guests.

The estate was sold to The Missionaries of Our Lady La Salette in 1943 after Mr. Rice died. This was a massive step towards turning the Mansion into a grand Turner Hill wedding venue. The Missionaries turned the property into a ministry and were used majorly for a spiritual retreat. From then on, the estate witnessed changes and some more development till it became the elegant wedding venue we have all come to love.

The Mansion on Turner Hill has also been on the receiving end of some notable awards in the last decade, winning the knot best of weddings award in 2012 and 2013.
