Aldrich Mansion History
Aldrich Mansion has a rich history that spans back to the 1890s. It was built during the unique eras of popular senator Nelson W. Aldrich, a native of Rhode Island. The Chateau construction started in 1896, with almost 200 craftsmen from all over Europe coming together to build a dynamic structure.
A little over sixteen years later, the now known Aldrich Mansion (formerly Indian Oaks) with 70 exotic rooms was completed. It was known for its unrivaled beauty thanks to ornate paintings, intricate wood carvings, Italian marbles, and other superb designs enhanced by designers’ diversity. Later, Senator Aldrich and Mrs. Aldrich each occupied one of the three spacious suites available in the Mansion and made it their home.
The Aldrich Mansion’s major transformation to an event center started in 1939 when the Senator’s heir transferred 85-acres of the Aldrich Mansion to Providence Diocese for a token sum. However, in 1946, the Lady of Providence Seminary changed the Mansion to its home. There have been significant improvements and developments that have transformed the charming Mansion with great yesteryear’s design to today’s eye-catching and luxurious event center.
This estate had played host to some notable events in the past, such as holding a Teahouse before it was destroyed by fire, the venue for Abby Aldrich and John D. Rockefeller’s, and the home to a Carriage House; Caretaker’s Cottage and Boathouse.
